Unable to concentrate, in the age of the internet? Try these proven methods.

Every now and then you are struggling with an easily distracted mind. To be able to concentrate, is half the job done. It’s time you fight back with these proven ways.

The 21st century began with a promise of inclusivity. All of us started getting more connected, more informed about incidents happening all over the world. It is amusing to be able to see our loved ones at any given time. No doubt, it gave rise to multitasking. With so much of the resources available, one is tempted to attend to all of them at once. The value of speed rose to new heights. This made us unable to concentrate on primary things in life.

We started worshipping speed, that’s where it all started to go wrong. Speed became one of the most vital factors for everything happening around. This infused a desire to grow faster than others, a competition one of its kind. Certainly, healthy competition is good but when 7 billion people start competing with each other, the competition turns into something else.

Competition is healthy, rat race is not.

Some were able to cope with it, some stopped in between. Some made peace with it, some turned to violent methods. The worst outcome was a loss of concentration. Everyone wants to be fast, the best at everything they do. Is it possible? There will always be winners and always be those who couldn’t win. What you learn in the journey is the most important asset you earn. No race, no competition is worth the trophy. Its always about what you feel about it and how you use that feeling to lead a better life.

“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on.  But that’s not what it means at all.  It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully.  I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done.

-Steve Jobs

With everyone rushing towards something or the other, you need to retain the value of what belongs to you. You need to value all the little things in your everyday life. Every now and then, you will face an important question- What matters the most at this point? How are you going to prioritize what matters? The simple answer would be to focus on what you have on your plate in the present.

To be able to focus, to concentrate on your job is half the job done. Your concentration power can help you in achieving greater feats in life. You could be a genius but if easily distracted, you are just wasting your potential. When you focus on your task, your ability to get it done increases significantly.

You are able to understand its details, where exactly the devil is. Once you eliminate it, your work is done. Good concentration also helps you in saving time and resources.

Concentration helps you produce maximum output in minimum time.

Let’s check out these methods which can help you in achieving the desired result through enhanced concentration power:

  • Limit the use of social media. Social media made us more social and informed. We started connecting with our family and friends on a whole different level. Distances are no more a factor because everyone is just a video call away.
While all this is happening with the power of a simple touch, we need to understand how it is affecting our brain.
Too much interaction leads to too much information to process.
This could lead to multiple distractions happening at once.
Your brain simply loses track of your priorities, thus leading to degradation of productivity.
Stop using your phone for worthless scrolling of news feed on social media.
You want to stay updated, follow a news app. You miss your friends, give them a call. Don’t just use your phone for the sake of doing something with your free time.
Instead, go for a walk. Play with your pet or spend time with your parents.
  • Let go of the past. The past is nothing but gone. Pondering upon broken dreams and missed opportunities will bring nothing but grief. Do not indulge in that. Replace it with enjoying the present. Live in the moment, go out, make new friends. Grab a beer, hold a cup of coffee and say together- Its a good life!
    Be thankful.
This will not only help you in recognizing your priorities but will also motivate you to work towards them and concentrate better. That will certainly help you in concentrating more on what’s on your plate and how to make it better.

If you have a great ambition, take as big a step as possible in the direction of fulfilling it. The step may only be a tiny one, but trust that it may be the largest one possible for now.

  • Recognize the demons. Nobody can understand your circumstances better than you. In order to concentrate properly, you need to know what’s pulling you back. Sit back for a while, take a notepad, and make a list. Do it right away. Make a list of all the things that distract you from your primary work. It could be a small list, it could be a long list- size does not matter here.
Slowly start working on eliminating every point in that list. Practice this exercise for one month, just one and you will start noticing the difference in your productivity.

You don’t have to fight dragons to bring back your lost powers. You just have to focus on being focused throughout the day. One simple feat achieved in a day could result in long term benefits. Try owning your mistakes and never ever think of giving in to temptations.

It is your life and yours alone. You are certainly not answerable to anyone but for your own good, you need to start answering to yourself. How many times do you sit and talk to yourself?

To achieve something remarkable in your lifetime, you have to introspect on a regular basis. That way you will not lose track of your goals.
Just be honest to yourself, that’s the only mantra you need to follow!
